Cultural Protection Framework Under Development

·UTCLA Secretariat

The UTCLA is progressing development of a comprehensive Cultural Protection Framework, designed to safeguard the cultural heritage, ceremony, language, and custodial responsibilities of Member Nations.

Key Focus Areas

The framework addresses several critical areas:

  • Ceremony and Cultural Practice — Protections for sacred ceremony and cultural practice across all Member Countries/Nations
  • Language Preservation — Support for the maintenance and revitalisation of Indigenous languages
  • Custodial Knowledge — Safeguards for traditional knowledge systems and their intergenerational transmission
  • Cultural Intellectual Property — Frameworks for the protection of cultural intellectual property rights

Guided by Tjukurpa

All cultural protection measures are grounded in Tjukurpa, ensuring that modern governance frameworks align with and support the ancient Law/Lore that has governed these lands since time immemorial.

The framework is being developed through consultation with all Member Nations and is expected to be formally adopted in the coming months.
